Frequently Asked Questions

GENERAL

Where are you located? 201 Nassau Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11222, just off the corner of McGolrick Park in Greenpoint.

Do you take walk-ins? We're appointment-based, but same-day and next-day bookings happen more than you'd think. Text us at 833-887-7620 to check availability. Please note that number is monitored by both our team and a bot, so for the fastest response, be as specific as possible about what you're looking for.

What are your hours? We don't keep traditional salon hours. Our stylists are independent and set their own availability.

  • Katherine: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 10am to 7pm

  • Patricia: Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, 10am to 8pm

  • Jehnna: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 10am to 8pm

Saturdays are available by request. Text or email studio201@jehnnafoster.com to inquire. When we're there, we're there for you.

Are you closed on holidays? We observe most major holidays. That said, our stylists are always open to a conversation. If you have a special event or circumstance, reach out and we'll see what's possible.

BOOKING AND POLICIES

How do I book? Through our online booking link. After selecting your service, you'll choose your stylist. Only stylists who perform that service will appear as options.

What's your cancellation policy? We require 48 hours' notice for any cancellation or reschedule.

  • Cancellations within 48 hours: 50% of the service total is charged.

  • No-shows: 100% of the service total is charged.

This isn't a penalty. It's respectful compensation for your stylist's reserved time.

Are consultations free? Always.

Do you offer house calls? Yes. We travel throughout Brooklyn, Manhattan, the Hamptons, Connecticut, and upstate New York. A flat house call fee is added to your service total, and pricing varies by service and stylist. Email studio201@jehnnafoster.com for a quote.

STYLISTS AND SERVICES

Does Jehnna do haircuts? Jehnna does haircuts, but only when paired with a color service, not as a standalone appointment.

What are Accent Highlights and why are they existing-clients only? Accent highlights are a face-framing service around the hairline and part, designed as a maintenance touch rather than a full look. Because they're built to complement an established color story, they're reserved for existing Studio 201 clients. You're welcome to switch stylists if needed.

What are Pop-Up Artists? Our pop-up artists are independent of the salon booking system, and each has their own contact info in their bio. Artists or stylists interested in popping up at the studio should reach out to studio201@jehnnafoster.com.

COLOR

What color line do you use? We use Davines exclusively. Davines is a certified B-Corporation and one of the most respected names in sustainable professional haircare. Their color formulas are ammonia-free, made with a high percentage of plant-derived ingredients, and remarkably low on the unpleasant chemical scent most people associate with color services. It's a genuinely different experience in the chair.

Our colorists work across the full Davines color offering, including View, A New Colour, Finest Pigments, The Present Time, Mask Lightener, Century of Light Liberty and Tolerance, and Mask with Vibrachrome, available by request or for specific techniques.

Is Davines color safe for sensitive clients? It's one of the reasons we chose it. Ammonia-free formulas with a high concentration of plant-based ingredients mean less irritation, less smell, and a noticeably more comfortable service. If you have specific sensitivities or concerns, mention them at your consultation and we'll talk through the right approach.

KERATIN

Who performs keratin treatments at Studio 201? Patricia is our keratin specialist and the primary provider of this service.

Which keratin do I need? We offer two Lasio formulas, Tropic and California Natural, and the right one depends on your hair type, texture, condition, and what you're hoping to get out of it. We always start with a consultation. If you come in leaning one way and we think the other formula is a better fit, we'll tell you.

Will it make my hair straight? No, and that's intentional. Neither formula is a straightening treatment.

  • California Natural is our cleanest formula, California Prop 65 approved, vegan, and infused with nourishing oils including jojoba, shea butter, and coconut. It delivers mild frizz reduction while fully preserving your curl pattern. Think of it as a reset button for your hair's health.

  • Tropic delivers a stronger smoothing effect, up to 60% curl softening and 100% frizz elimination, with more noticeable wave reduction while keeping natural body and movement.

A note on formaldehyde transparency: We want to be straightforward with you. The California Natural formula is Prop 65 approved and independently verified formaldehyde-free. It's the formula we recommend without hesitation for anyone with sensitivities or concerns. The Tropic formula has been marketed as formaldehyde-free, however Lasio settled a legal action in 2024 in which independent testing found formaldehyde present in excess of safe levels. Lasio is required to reformulate and independently verify the product before continuing to sell it. We are currently in contact with our Lasio representative to confirm the status of that reformulation. In the meantime, we run an Austin Air HealthMate Plus air purification system in the studio continuously, and we will always give you the most current information we have so you can make the right decision for yourself. When in doubt, California Natural is always on the table.

How long does it last? Up to 3 months with proper aftercare: sulfate-free shampoo, staying out of salt water and chlorine, and being mindful of how frequently you're washing.

How much does it cost? Starting at $400. Pricing goes up from there based on length and density with no ceiling. Your exact price will be confirmed at consultation.

How should I come in? Clean hair, one to two days post-wash is fine. Wear it how you normally do more than 50% of the time: blown out, in your natural wave, however that looks for you. The service begins with a clarifying treatment, so there's nothing else you need to do to prepare.

Do I have to wait to wash my hair after? No waiting. We wash and blow out your hair as part of the service, so you leave with finished hair. After that, treat it normally: sulfate-free shampoo only, and avoid salt water and chlorine to protect your results.

Can I get a keratin if I'm pregnant? We don't perform keratin treatments on pregnant or nursing clients, per Lasio's own guidelines.

What if my hair is extremely damaged? Severely compromised hair is not a good candidate. We'll assess honestly during your consultation.

Can I get a keratin on color-treated or highlighted hair? Yes, with a few timing notes worth understanding.

  • Base color or gloss should be done before your keratin (same day is fine) or at least 3 weeks after. The keratin temporarily seals the cuticle, which can block color from fully penetrating if done too soon.

  • Highlights pull keratin out faster, so it's best to have them freshened up right before your treatment. We can do both same day, so you get the full 3+ months before needing to re-highlight.

  • Neither formula strips or removes your existing color or gloss. If anything, a fresh gloss benefits from being sealed in.
